Home Career tools

The tools you need
after the course.

Three utilities for the part nobody teaches: getting read, getting shortlisted and getting a reply. They work whatever your branch, and they run entirely in your browser — nothing you paste is uploaded anywhere.

01/ATS résumé scanner

ATS résumé scanner

Most applications are read by software before a person. This scores the text of a résumé against the posting and shows every deduction with the fix.

02/CV checklist

CV checklist

Nineteen checks across evidence, structure, contact details and tailoring. Work through it before you send, not after.

0 / 190% complete

Evidence

Every claim should be checkable by someone who was not there.

Structure

Parsers and tired reviewers both read structure before content.

Contact and links

The one part of a CV that must never fail.

Tailoring

The difference between a good CV and a good application.

Where this is stored. Ticks are kept in this browser only — nothing is sent anywhere, and Reset clears them. It is a checklist for a human reader: no automated check can tell you whether a claim is true.

03/Cold outreach builder

Cold outreach builder

The email that gets a reply is specific, short and about the person receiving it. This builds that message from facts you supply.

The ask
SubjectA quick questionWords30 — a good length for cold outreach
Hi there,

Would you be open to a 15-minute conversation about how your team approaches this work?

Thanks for your time — no pressure if this is not a fit.

What makes this work

  • The hook is the whole email. “I read your paper on batch-effect correction” is the difference between a message about them and a message about you.
  • One ask, small and specific. A 15-minute conversation, or one piece of advice. Never a job, never two things.
  • One sentence of evidence. Something you built or measured, with a number if there is one.
  • Short. Under 170 words, five short paragraphs. Anyone reading on a phone should see the ask without scrolling.
  • No pressure and no follow-up guilt. Send one reminder after about a week, then stop. Two messages is polite; five is a reputation.

Before you send. Check the facts you typed — the paper title, the person’s current role, the spelling of the organisation. A cold email that gets a detail wrong is worse than no email, and this builder cannot verify any of it for you.

Tools help. Reviewed work helps more.

A portfolio of milestones that somebody has actually reviewed is what turns a résumé into an interview. Every track ends in one.
